2016/17 Courses and Requlifications

Pre-requisite of all courses:

  • Must be a financial member of Black Rock Life Saving Club (1st July - 30th June)
  • Must have a valid Working with Children Check (if 18 years and over)

Bronze Medallion (BM) and Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)

Session 1: Saturday 8th October, 10am (1-1.5hrs)

          Topics: Introduction to Lifesaving, Safety & Well Being, Surf Awareness

 Session 2: Saturday 15th October, 1pm (1-1.5hrs)

          Topics: Human Body, Resuscitation

 Session 3: Saturday 22nd October, 10am (1-1.5hrs)

          Topics: First Aid, Defibrillation & Basic Oxygen

 Session 4: Saturday 29th October, 1pm (1-1.5hrs)

           Topics: Patrols, Communications, Radios, Beach Management

Practical Sessions will be run on

Saturday 12th & 19th November at 2.15pm for 1 hour

 

It is advisable to attend all sessions, however make-up sessions may be available if discussed with Faye at the commencement of the course.

 In order to secure a position on this course you will need to complete your membership renewal and make payment of $34 for the course manual if required (recommended).  Description should state 'Bronze/SRC Course and name'.  Renewal and Payment can be made via Lifesaving Online in your SLSA Members Portal account.

Award Date to be advised

U14s need to have their SRC in order to compete at States and patrol.  The SRC award can be taken by members who are aged 13 by course assessment date.

U15s and above need to have their BM in order to compete, patrol and do water safety.  To compete at States they will need to have the required patrol hours.  The BM award can be taken by members who are aged 15 and above by course assessment date.

Pre-Requisites for Bronze Medallion

To commence training for the Bronze Award you must meet the following course pre-requisite:

  • Be at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment
  • Complete an unaided swim (goggles/masks permitted) of 400 metre swim in nine (9) minutes or less, in a swimming pool of not less than 25 metres, or over a measured open water.

Pre-requisites for Surf Rescue Certificate

To commence training for the Surf Rescue Certificate you must meet the following course pre-requisite:

  • Be at least 13 years of age on the date of final assessment
  • Have completed a 200 metre swim in five (5) minutes or less, unaided (goggles/mask permitted), in a swimming pool of not less than 25 metres, or over a measured open water course.

On successful completion of the BM course all parents of nippers will be required to assist at nipper training sessions with Water Safety.

SRC/Bronze Requalification

Annual Requalification Date will be advised at training sessions and via TeamApp

IRB Crew & Driver Course

Next course to be advised - two full days 9-5pm.

Pre-requisites for IRB Crew

To enter the IRB Crew Certificate candidates must have met the following course pre-requisites:
  • Minimum of 15 years of age on the date of final assessment
  • Hold the Bronze Medallion award
  • Have already achieved the following units of competency:
    • PUA31310 Certificate III in Public Safety (Aquatic Search and Rescue)

Pre-requisites for IRB Driver

To enter the Silver Medallion (IRB Driver) candidates must have met the following course pre-requisites:
  • Minimum of 16 years of age to commence training
  • Minimum of 17 years f age on the date of final assessment
  • Hold and be currently proficient in the Bronze Medallion award and IRB Crew Certificate for a minimum of 1 year
  • Have met the Marine Licensing requirements in Victoria
  • Have already achieved the following units of competency:
    • PUACOM001C Communicate in the workplace
    • PUAEME001B Provide emergency care or HLTFA201A Provide basic emergency life support
    • PUAOPE013A Operate communication systems and equipment.

Age Manager Course (Coach)
